Lied Place Walkability

Mar 22, 2021

Though not technically a word by Webster Dictionary’s standards, walkability is used in recent literature to describe “the extent to which the built environment is friendly to the presence of people living, shopping, visiting, enjoying, or spending time in an area.” Considering factors such as sidewalk presence or absence, traffic and road conditions, building variety and accessibility, and the existence of trees and vegetation, this new field of urban development will help prospective residents decide whether or not a walking lifestyle will be possible in their new surroundings.

Lincoln earned a spot on a list of America’s Most Walkable Communities by PBS’s America’s Walking, a series that explores the myriad benefits of a walking lifestyle. Alongside cities like Boulder, Portland, and Austin, Lincoln accompanied 25 communities on the Medium and Smaller Cities and Towns list, the only Nebraska locale to make the lineup. With a Walk Score of 67, the Lied Place Residences zip code is the most walkable zip code within the city.

With Canopy Street Market less than half a mile away for groceries, a home in the downtown area would provide immediate walking routes to a variety of shops, venues, restaurants, and meeting spaces. The Lied Center, Starbucks, Marcus Grand Theater, the Sheldon Art Museum, and at least six restaurants are one to three minutes away by foot from the Lied Place front entrance. A five-minute stroll will take you to the Rococo Theater, the Ross Media Arts Center, Fly (a cycling and body-sculpting fitness studio), and dozens more bars and food venues. Memorial Stadium is a seven-minute walk, and you can reach the Haymarket and Pinnacle Bank Arena within 10 to 15 minutes, giving quick access to jazz clubs, art galleries, and over 100 restaurants for condo owners.

Beyond the convenience of this central location, Lied Place residents can also obtain health benefits from a walking lifestyle, including healthy weight maintenance, muscle and bone strengthening, and improved balance and coordination. A brisk stroll in the sunshine is also a well-known mood booster, and in addition to the beautiful views available above the skyline, who wouldn’t be delighted to call Lied Place their home?
