A Downtown Holiday

Dec 14, 2020

When Nebraskans consider going home for the holidays, long drives past picturesque, snow-covered farmland is usually what first comes to mind. But the scene in downtown Lincoln has much to offer its residents, and these seasonal events will become your new Christmas traditions after you make Lied Place Residences your home.

With the Historic Haymarket just three blocks away, a treasure trove of holiday events, menus, and local shopping is within convenient access. For select dates each December, any patron can take advantage of the free horse and sleigh rides sponsored by the Lincoln Haymarket Development Corporation, with Santa strolling the area and corners marked off for live entertainment. After you attend a holiday concert at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Railyard Ice Rink is open throughout the season for a quick skate or even a private party.

The Downtown Lincoln Association hosts Shop the Blocks each November in preparation for Christmas, with local boutiques, restaurants, and bars offering specials, making Christmas shopping from Lied Place a simple, enjoyable activity. A day of shopping can turn into an evening of entertainment, with a performance at the Lied Center followed by holiday menu sampling at The Dish Downtown or a slow glass of bourbon at Single Barrel. You can enjoy the holiday lights at various locations as you walk home from shops and restaurants.

If a candlelight service helps you engage the holiday spirit, twelve churches are within close distance to Lied Place Residences. Though many of them are holding virtual celebrations this year, St. Mark’s on the Campus is a short five-minute walk from your front door, allowing you an opportunity for a quiet moment amidst the holiday bustling of future Decembers. Of course, that quiet moment will follow you home and extend as long as you’d like, while you watch the twinkling Christmas lights across the whole of Lincoln from your Lied Place window.
